Towards finding the meaning of life

What is success? Working at a multinational corp that pays in buckets of gold? Starting your own company and calling yourself a “founder” of something that has a hip new name? Or getting married in your early twenties, and starting a family?

Your answers might differ, depending on your social circle, the norms of your community, the career trends being followed in your country or simply by the profession of your parents. But is there an answer that isn’t influenced by these hidden forces? Can we find an answer that is ‘absolutely correct’ as opposed to ‘relatively correct’? What I mean by the word ‘absolutely’ here is not the right answer, but an answer that doesn’t sway with the changing winds of contrasting opinions you hear, an answer that has its roots deep in ground so that it won’t be affected by anything around it. And maybe, just maybe, if we can find an answer so unbendable, we might just find what your life really means. Dare I say that our unbendable answer might break in case of unexpected thunderstorms, but it will hold true for as long as it stands.

Religion says that people were created to serve their God, but then religion also tells you the minute details of right and wrong that apply in your daily dealings, when you are living your life and not praying. So its okay to do things other than just praying? Which means praying isn’t the only goal of life. But then what else? We have been told by ‘religion’ to try to gain knowledge. Not of what or how or when but just knowledge, and we are supposed to overcome any odds that stop us from learning. This means we can learn anything we want, and we should keep on learning, whats in the universe, what makes up our bodies, and possibly the meaning of life too?

We have two options so far, to make the goal ‘gaining knowledge’ or to define the goal individually after you gain knowledge about the world, its people, the life after death, etc. But then what about the people who ARE  defining it themselves? The people who are using the information from people around them, that influence makes them choose their goal. How do we differentiate following other sheep in a flock from actually thinking about what life is and using the experiences of the people around you to forge your our own path, a path which might well be exactly the same as that of your flock?

One solution seems obvious, don’t just take inputs from the people that surround you, but also take the same proportion of input from the whole world. It might include an opinion from someone on the other side of the globe, the careers trends being followed by the world, not just your community, and the wisdom of incorruptible minds from all of time. Minds that were able to see things the way that other people couldn’t see. Minds that had the strength to question power, and religion, and human psyche.

Da Vinci, Allama Iqbal, Rumi, Khalil Gibran, James Allen, and more that I don’t know of yet…

Now I can’t mention their names and not share, even if only a sliver, of their wisdom. So here goes:

James Allen

The law of harvest is to reap more than you sow. Sow an act, and you reap a habit. Sow a habit and you reap a character. Sow a character and you reap a destiny.
I like this because it is such an easy DIY for creating good habits and ultimately success.
Circumstances do not make the man, they reveal him.
BOOM! This one is incredibly power. It opens up the clogged mind.

For true success ask yourself these four questions: Why? Why not? Why not me? Why not now?

It doesn’t work for me because it’s not motivating me to do anything. I can ask myself these questions but it is fairly easy to slip back into the eternal procrastination state after I’ve done that.

Khalil Gibran

Forget not that the earth delights to feel your bare feet and the winds long to play with your hair.

A tranquil thought for people on the edge of life, deliberating death. Reminds one of the things that long them apart from anything human.

Work is love made visible.

This one is actually related to finding your purpose in life. When deciding a path, narrow down your options by asking yourself this: Would I love doing this?

Khalil Gibran is also famous for his poems, they are like philosophical short stories. Here’s one for the people whose life means starting a family and raising kids.

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, “Speak to us of Children.”
And he said:
Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.
They come through you but not from you,
And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.
You may give them your love but not your thoughts.
For they have their own thoughts.
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.
The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.
Let your bending in the archer’s hand be for gladness;
For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.

Rumi

The only association I have with Rumi’s work stems from the book by Elif Shafaq, The forty rules of love. And even that wasn’t really about Rumi, it was about his friend Shams of Tabrez. So I don’t directly know what his work is about. But lets find out…

If you are irritated by every rub, how will your mirror be polished?

A lot of us are looking for a comfortable life, a life where you have no worries. But that comfort comes on the price of letting go true happiness. Sure you can find a place where you will be safe but you won’t experience the highs of life either if you want to avoid the lows. I suppose a life full of highs and lows is like a polished mirror.

What we finally know is, we can’t depend on the people of our present to determine our path in life, we have to look at the wisdom of those before us, and the vision of those who can see into the future no matter where they are on earth. But most importantly, we gotta find our own voice in the storm.

The Freedom Bandwagon

Our world is moving towards a form of freedom where you can almost get away with anything.

The kind of freedom that allows ignorant people to make decisions without having necessary knowledge about the consequences of their choices. Some people do, however. But the thing about making your own individual decisions is that you might justify your choice by unintentionally overlooking certain things about yourself in order to prove (to yourself and everyone who questions you) that you are making the right decision; things that only other people can see in you. And also ignoring things that can have an impact on the larger population. You don’t see the bigger picture, oftentimes you are only looking at yourself through a tiny whole of self awareness.

People make decisions about drastic face surgeries instead of going to a therapist to deal with the real issue and nobody has the courage to tell them otherwise because we all work under the assumption that everybody is fully capable of making sane decisions. They are allowed to do whatever they want with themselves, God forbid we try to find out what led someone to this point, are they harboring some deep upsetting feelings from childhood? Is this their coping mechanism? If it is, what are they coping against? Everyone needs understanding from those around them, they need support and  happiness in their life. But by avoiding the pricky ‘Why?’ questions , are we giving them freedom to pursue happiness or freedom to pursue unhealthy coping mechanisms to haunting experiences from the past?

Then there’s the thing about ‘Assisted Suicides’. What is essentially happening here is you are asking someone to painlessly kill you because you want to kill yourself but can’t do it on your own. Can the state, the community, or the institute that holds these ‘approved murders’ at least offer them a period of free psychological help? So that after the aforementioned parties have made sure there is absolutely nothing they can do to help, only then can the person be allowed to carry on with their decision to kill themself?

What about religion? It is affecting the whole world, directly or indirectly. Fanatics commit crimes, people from one religion judge those from another. All this unabating  hate and confusion yet we still don’t try to talk about it with eachother. We assume everyone has reached their decision after gaining complete knowledge about their respective religions. We don’t question the path they took, we only judge the destination it led them to. Can’t we let our children read the basic and original texts of all major religions so they can have the power to analyze the current scenario themselves, they can know where a fanatic went off-track, they can make up their own mind instead of blindly following popular opinions?

Freedom is still far better than tyrannical rules and dictatorships where only one person can make decisions between right and wrong for you. We can’t give the reins of our life to someone else, especially if it is someone we don’t entirely trust. But then again, why is it not okay to make sure someone with no hands gets some help in holding his reins? Maybe make them some prosthetic limbs so they have the ability to hold their own reins.

Game of Thrones Predictions [S07 & S08]

Cersei Weds Euron

We know that Theon and Yara have teamed up with Dany, which means Dany no longer needs Euron’s ships. Therefore Euron will go to Westeros and offer them to Cersei to help her defeat Dany’s fleet.

The fate of Yara

So far, it has been confirmed through pictures of the making of season 7 that Yara and Theon suffer defeat by Euron and Yara gets taken as his prisoner to the red keep. I think Yara will thus die at Cersei/ Euron’s hands.

Euron

Euron will be murdered after he is used by Cersei because she knows he is after the throne and she can’t give that up, not to him anyway.

Theon’s Birthright

Theon is the last surviving son of the Greyjoys therefore his claim to the iron islands is more authentic than Yara’s. Theon will be handed over this birthright when Yara is defeated by Euron (although Euron seems like the person who has the hold of iron islands, he will ultimately die because his character building is weaker than Theon’s. Plus Theon already has 1. Suffered tremendously at the hands of Ramsay, and 2. Theon’s character wasn’t completely smeared by making sure he didn’t actually kill the stark boys. Therefore he needs his deserved good-ending)

The Last of the Lannisters

When Dany and Tyrion reach Westeros, Cersei will attempt to murder Tyrion but will be killed by him instead. (Tyrion will not kill her intentionally because he doesn’t hate her and they need to keep Tyrion’s image clean so they will have her killed as a consequence of her own misdeeds that were intended to result in Tyrion’s death). So Tyrion survives but he “accidentally” kills Cersei, hence completing the prophecy that Cersei will be killed by her younger brother.

Jamie Survives

When Dany takes control of Westeros, Tyrion will not let her kill his brother who helped save his life. Therefore he convinces her to either, 1) Exile him and send him off to Casterly Rock, or 2) Keep him by her side as part of the Queen’s Guard. Jamie however will despise Tyrion for killing Cersei, the love of his life, and his father. His misery is much more severe than his gratefulness for being alive, infact he doesn’t feel grateful at all, he only wants to avenge Cersei/Tywin’s deaths. Therefore this can lead to further plot points in which he will try to make attempts of killing Tyrion even though at this point in time, Tyrion has helped him survive Dany.

Samwell Tarly

Sam has gone to the Citadel and we know that he has a Valyrian steel sword, plus he has used dragon glass before when he killed a whitewalker. Sam will use these things/experiences to try to reinvent the method for forging Valyrian steel swords (reinvent because the existence of these swords tell us that someone already has invented the method before). This will probably involve either dragon fire (if this is true, I don’t know how he is going to use Dany’s dragons to start a Valyrian steel manufacturing factory), or wild fire. And since he is supposedly learning new stuff at the mega library, he will probably also learn how to make wildfire. We have already seen maesters making wildfire for Cersei/Tyrion before. Wildfire itself will help against the whitewalkers, the other two arsenals in the war against whitewalkers will be Valyrian steel swords and of course, dragons.

Dany

I have a feeling that Dany is ultimately going to die. Maybe the Kingslayer will kill her like he killed her father. Jon will carry on the Targaryen blood line and we will find out that he is also a dragon (like Dany is).

Jon Targaryen

He will convince the 7 kingdoms to wage war against the whitewalkers and he will get the throne but will instead give independence to whoever demands it, thereby segmenting the 7 kingdoms.

Sansa and Arya

Sansa dies, Ayra…i don’t know, there is a very good chance that she survives and carries on the Stark blood-line / gives birth to another Brandon Stark. The reason for this is that they’ve shown Sansa as the likely person who will give birth to a stark but since it can’t be that obvious, they will use Arya for this purpose. It is true however that neither girls can give birth to a kid with last name stark. So maybe Arya will have children but she won’t be the one carrying the stark name forward. Which brings me to Bran.

Bran and Meera

Bran will have kids with Meera Reed and he will not only carry the Stark name forward, his generations will also produce at least one more Brandon because almost every generation of Starks has a Brandon, the Builder.

Uncle Benji, the three-eyed raven?

Benji can be used as a name for Brandon. It is very much possible that he was the Bran of his generation for a number of reasons, he helped Bran north of the wall, he survived himself north of the wall (maybe he is a warg and his horse is his go-to animal), he survived the white walkers, he left Bran near a Godswood tree. Needless to say, he will make another appearance in Bran’s life or even his visions. If all else fails, there is just this air of mystery around this uncle Benji character and he has made a number of appearances, plus proved very helpful for Jon and Bran. So he definitely has a big role to play in the upcoming seasons.

Wait – I just found out they already had a Bandon Stark, he was Ned and Benjen’s older brother.

Characters with unknown plot paths

We know that there are some characters who haven’t reached their full potential in the story just yet but they will and we don’t know how. These are,

Varys

Gendry Waters

The Hound (he’ll probably be the one who kills The Mountain)

Olenna Tyrell

Benjen Stark

Robert Arryn

A call from the Dalai Lama

“Hello,” said the voice on the phone. “My name is Lhamo Dondrub. I know you never expected a call from me, as famous as I am, but I’ve been given your name as someone who can help me find an innovative solution for retaining my old teeth eternally. I know you have devised a method that can make this possible”.

“Is this a prank call?”, I demanded. “No, I am on the verge of losing my teeth to old age unless you help me. I have been told that you are creating new methods of dental treatment through your knowledge of ancient scripts and futuristic scientific techniques. Help me with this major tooth dilemma and I promise I will be in your debt forever. That is, until I die of course. What do you say?”

At this point I was starting to think that this could be the real Dalai Lama. I mean, I have read about his teeth misery over countless shallow news articles and it is not a secret that I helped the President of the German Scientific Community to replace all of his teeth with titanium enriched stabilizers that will essentially make them impervious to cavities and 149 different gum infections.

“Alright, I’ll help you. But I have a condition.”

“Anything.” He replied desperately.

“I will need a cold biopsy of your brain so I can study your analytical process and perfect my philosophical theories for future generations. A minor cold biopsy won’t hurt you in any way, I swear”

“Alright I’ll need to talk to my people about this but I think its safe to say that you can go ahead and start making preparations for both the procedures.”

“Great! I’m looking forward to seeing you soon.” I put down my ear piece and took out a long piece of paper from the bottom shelf of my desk. Dalai Lama, the name was easy enough to find, it was only the fifth name on the list. I crossed it in a swift motion and a knowing smile slowly spread across my face.
